TOURING

  • Assisted Living communities
  • Memory Care Communities
  • Board And Care Homes
  • Skilled Nursing Homes

Trust your senses
Does the facility smell clean? Is the noise level at a comfortable level for your loved one?

Observe
Do the residents and staff interact with one another? Do the employees seem to enjoy their work environment? Are the caregivers and other employees more engaged in looking at their phones as opposed to being active in their work environment?

Use your imagination
Can you picture your loved one in that environment? Would this be a place that you and your family would enjoy visiting.

Get the facts
Do they have any deficiencies with their licensing agencies? Ask to see the latest state licensing report. If you have any problem to access it, please let us know and we can pull it for you.

What’s for breakfast, lunch, and dinner?
Plan your visit around a meal time and make an appointment to include a meal with your tour. Also take a look at the menu. Do they offer alternatives if your loved one does not or cannot eat what is being offered?

My loved one is very ACTIVE
Ask to see the activity calendar of the community and have them tell you about some of their recent activities. Do they also offer community outings (shopping, movies, meals, etc.)?

Read the fine lines
Take a look at the move-in agreement and keep the future in mind. Allocate time in your schedule to go over the agreement well. As your loved one’s level of care may need to increase, will this community still fit into your budget? We are also available to go over the agreement with you.

Safety first
Look at the room where your loved one may be staying. Are the grab bars accessible if they need help getting up? Will it be difficult to get to and use the bathroom? Is there an emergency call light by the bed?

Talk, Talk, Talk
Speak with some families who have their loved one in the community. Be sure to speak with more than one family to get a broader sense of opinions. Ask for references.

I LOVE my Southern California SENIOR!!
Trust your instincts. Was the tour a comfortable one? Would you feel good about having them call that community home? Can this be a long-term home?
